Many, many years ago I received a Polaroid Swinger for Christmas. If you are old enough to remember those, then you know when I first got the bug. As a classical painting Art Major, I started taking photographs for reference materials for paintings. I took a black and white photography class in order to use the darkroom and the rest was history. I practically moved into the darkroom.
My approach to photography has not changed from my days as a painter—each image should tell a story. Regardless what you shoot, make sure it speaks to the person viewing the image.
